Special thanks to PHS alum and current University of Kentucky College of Medicine student, Alison (Porter) Marcum for coming to present her research project "Educating and Encouraging Rural Kentucky Students to Pursue Medicine" to our Biomedical Science classes. We were so happy to have her back on campus and sharing valuable information with our students.

Lesson 5 Mr. McCormick's classes discussed car loans and the different types. Today, students planned out a smart savings strategy by choosing a $4,000 starter car to drive now, a midrange car to buy in 10 months, and finally their dream used car in 20 months, all while staying debt-free!!
This activity showed our students how patience, planning, and discipline can turn financial goals into reality. Our students are loving their new personal finance course!
Students who took the PSAT/NMSQT today will see their scores in their College Board accounts on November 13th.
Your PSAT score gives you a sneak peek at how ready you are for the SAT and college-level work. It is also used for admittance to the Governor's Scholars Program.
Here’s the breakdown:
📘 Total Score: 320–1520 — this combines your Reading & Writing and Math sections (each worth 160–760).
🧮 Section Scores: Show how you did in each area.
⭐ Selection Index: Used to see if you qualify for the National Merit Scholarship. It’s calculated as (2 × Reading & Writing) + Math ÷ 10, with a range of 48–228.
📈 Percentile Rank: Shows how your score compares to other students across the country.
🔍 Subscores: Help you see what specific skills you’ve mastered and what you can still improve on.
💡 Quick facts:
• A 1270+ is considered a great score (top 10% of test-takers).
• A perfect score is 1520.
• Only 11th graders can qualify for the National Merit Scholarship through the PSAT/NMSQT.
• Colleges don’t see your PSAT scores, but they’re an awesome way to predict how you’ll do on the SAT and find areas to focus on before the real thing.
