Using KDE’s A Family’s Guide to Understanding Student Assessment, we’ll explore formative, diagnostic, interim, and summative assessments—and how each supports student learning.

📝 Day 1: Formative Assessment
Formative assessments are quick, ongoing check-ins that help teachers understand what students know and adjust instruction to meet their needs. These may include classroom discussions, observations, exit tickets, or short activities. The goal is to guide learning—not simply assign a grade! 🌟

🩷 PAINTSVILLE STANDS TOGETHER 🩷 Paintsville Independent Schools will join our friends and neighbors across Johnson County in wearing PINK on Monday, August 17, in honor of Carissa and in support of her family. At times like this, school colors, district lines, and rivalries do not matter. We are one community. We stand together to surround this family, Carissa’s friends, classmates, and all who loved her with support. We are asking our Paintsville faculty, staff, students, families, and community members to wear pink on Monday as a visible reminder that no family in our community stands alone during a difficult time. To our neighbors at Johnson County Schools and to Carissa’s family: Paintsville stands with you. 🩷 Please continue to keep her family, friends, classmates, teachers, and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead. 📚 Day 4 of our reading series focuses on fluency—helping children read smoothly, accurately, and with expression!

Reading aloud, rereading favorite books, and listening to fluent readers are great ways to build confidence and make reading sound natural. 🌟

🚌💙 Bus Safety Starts With All of Us! 💙🚌 As we head back to school, please remember to slow down, stay alert, and watch for our school buses and students! Give buses plenty of space, obey flashing lights and stop signs, and be extra cautious during morning and afternoon routes. Strong phonics skills help young readers sound out unfamiliar words and build confidence as they read. Try practicing with letter sounds, word games, and favorite books at home! 🌟

Day 2 of our reading series is all about phonemic awareness—the ability to hear, identify, and play with individual sounds in words!

Practicing these sound skills at home can help build a strong foundation for confident reading and spelling. Stay tuned for simple, fun ways to practice together! 🌟
