This week we join schools across the nation in recognizing National School Bus Safety Week (October 20–24, 2025).
Our school bus drivers play a vital role in keeping students safe each and every day. We encourage students, families, and the community to review safe riding and driving practices that help ensure all children arrive at school and home safely.
🚍 Always stop when the red lights are flashing.
🚸 Watch for students entering and exiting the bus.
✅ Talk to your child about safe behavior while riding.
Let’s work together to keep our Tigers safe on the road! 💙🐅

💼🌟 Happy National Boss’s Day! 🌟💼
Paintsville Independent Schools would like to wish a Happy National Boss’s Day to all of our incredible leaders across the district! Your commitment to our students, faculty, and staff make a difference every single day.
Thank you for leading with compassion and a heart for education. 💙🐅 #TigerPride #NationalBossDay #TeamPaintsville

Students rotated through stations to compare different types of sources, deepen their understanding of historical evidence, and practice thinking like historians. 🏛️💡
Learning history comes alive when students get hands-on with the past! #PaintsvilleTigers #HandsOnLearning #HistoryInAction #EngagedLearners

Students are analyzing each other’s work, sharing insights, and strengthening their understanding of how traits are passed from one generation to the next. 👩🔬👨🔬
We love seeing collaboration and critical thinking in action! 💡 #PaintsvilleTigers #STEMinAction #HandsOnLearning #Genetics

Each student received a cookie to represent a piece of land and used simple tools to “mine” for chocolate chips—symbolizing the extraction of natural resources. After mining, students reflected on the environmental impact of resource use and the challenges of restoring the land. 🌎💡
What a fun and meaningful way to learn about how human activities affect our planet! 🌱 #PaintsvilleTigers #HandsOnLearning #STEMinAction #OpenSciEd

Students are exploring how sculptures can balance by investigating symmetry and asymmetry—and how both play a role in keeping objects stable. In the photo, they’re discussing examples of symmetry found in everyday objects as they work to answer the big question: “How can we build a sculpture that will balance?”
We love seeing our young engineers think, design, and experiment like real scientists! 💡⚖️ #PaintsvilleTigers #OpenSciEd #ForcesAndInteractions #STEMinAction

Frontier Behavioral Health now joins our network of school-based therapy options available to families within Paintsville Independent Schools.
Families are encouraged to explore the services that best meet their child’s needs. Our goal is to ensure that all students have access to quality mental health support. You may contact the schools or the number on the flyer for more information.

Mr. Andy Hazlette’s 3rd grade scientists are beginning their OpenSciEd Forces and Motion Unit 3, Lesson 1 with an exciting anchoring phenomenon:
“How do these sculptures balance and move?”
Students explored balancing and moving sculptures, noticing and wondering about how these creations can stay upright and even move in puzzling ways. They:
🌀 Built and diagrammed their own model sculptures
🧩 Categorized sculptures and everyday objects
💭 Generated initial ideas for how forces help them balance and move
🗂️ Created a Driving Question Board filled with ideas for future investigations
Through this lesson, students discovered that a sculpture with many parts can be put together to balance — and even move — in surprising ways!
Hands-on learning and creative problem-solving are alive and well at Paintsville Elementary! 💙🐾

🧬 Exploring Genetics in 8th Grade Science! 🔬
Mrs. Madison Newsome’s 8th grade scientists are tackling their driving question:
“Why don't offspring always look like their parents or siblings?”
Through their investigation, students:
📊 Compare proportions of different genotypes
🧩 Use simple mathematical models to predict genetic outcomes
They discovered that:
✅ The genotypes of parents help predict the proportions of offspring genotypes and phenotypes
✅ Differences in traits arise because alleles separate into different sex cells and recombine in new ways at fertilization
✅ These patterns explain why every living thing is unique!
Curiosity, inquiry, and scientific thinking are in full swing at Paintsville Junior High! 💙🐾
